My First Month’s Cost of Hosting a Hugo Blog on AWS

I just got my first AWS billing statement after starting this Hugo blog. I have the normal stack of storing in S3 and pushing to the web with Cloudfront. My AWS bill in April was 17 cents and the bill for May is 22 cents. This means the total cost for hosting in May for my Hugo blog is just 5 cents. The entire 5 cents comes from S3. I was charged nothing for Cloudfront which means I’m still in the free tier.

Advantages of Wordpress over Hugo

Today let us talk about Hugo vs Wordpress. If you search the web you see many bloggers espousing Hugo. I disagree with this. Of course the technical people are going to blog about Hugo. They don’t have much else to write about. Except their technical superiority. In the meantime notable names like BBC America, Sony Music, TechCrunch, and Disney quietly run their sites on Wordpress. They don’t write posts to submit to Hacker News bragging about their static blogging setup.
