Recently on Hacker News I came across a “Ask HN” where the poster asked if there were any job boards and age-friendly companies out there. The replies are hilarious with the top post sharing two anecdotes of older men dying their hair and dressing more hip. The poster then goes on to finish with it’s not your age that will limit you, but your apparent age. If you are old, but look like a younger/fresher version of yourself, you do well.

The Smartest Thing I Read on Bogleheads

While reading the Bogleheads today, I happened to come across a post started on Jul 13, 2011 at 7:37PM titled What is the longest period for stock market to lose money? The thread starts out with the usual naval gazing where posters go back and forth about if it is after taxes and fees, and if they should consider real or nominal yield. There is also discussion if the number encompasses all stocks or only small caps.

Chinese Kidneys and Fairness

A friend recently watched a documentary that discussed the sale of kidneys and other organs from Chinese prisoners to sick people that need organ transplants. She was upset about it, while I simply thought it was interesting. My friend was dismayed at my lack of outrage. Hey, if I ever need an organ transplant then I have another option besides waiting on the generosity of a deceased person or their family.
