Today let us talk about Hugo vs Wordpress. If you search the web you see many bloggers espousing Hugo. I disagree with this. Of course the technical people are going to blog about Hugo. They don’t have much else to write about. Except their technical superiority. In the meantime notable names like BBC America, Sony Music, TechCrunch, and Disney quietly run their sites on Wordpress. They don’t write posts to submit to Hacker News bragging about their static blogging setup.

Images With Hugo

Lets talk about static sites and images today. An ordinary person would paste a screenshot or drag-n-drop an image into their Wordpress blog and be done. We, however, are the technocratic elite and as such endeavor to avoid the “free as in beer” in pursuit of the complicated like “free as in speech”. The Hugo documetation literally states the typical Hugoista is to store images in the static folder and add subfolders for organization.

I started out blogging on Wordpress way back in 2008. So recently when I decided to create a second blog to write about non-technical topics, I again decided to go with Wordpress. However as soon as I submitted my first post, my blog was immediately deleted and this message was shown on my dashboard: Your site has been suspended from WordPress.com for violating the Terms of Service. If you believe this was done in error, please contact us as soon as possible to have the suspension reviewed.
